Debt and Taxes

Ah, I’ve been thinking a lot about the late David Graeber lately. He was right about diagnosing so many problems (and quite wrong about many of his proposed solutions).

Debt, The First 500 Years, has become one of my favourite economics books. I keep coming back to it and how it makes explicit the dirty truth that ALL money is backed by FORCE first and faith second. Money, the fungible kind is covered in blood, evil really is the root of all money.

Credit really is the credible threat of violence if you refuse to honour it.

As they say, the strong take what they can, the weak (wherever in time and space they are) suffer what they must – this is the state of nature.

But – there is hope, as with actual nature, we can, we have, and we must rise above it and keep rising. Peace is not “natural” but we can keep it.

Read the book, and tell me which parts you agreed and disagreed with.
